HATCH is an artist-run space dedicated to books and printed objects. We promote slow publishing: books and posters, prints and objects—multiple, joyful, and thoughtful. The works we select employ unconventional techniques, invent new forms, and unfold unique worlds. By committing to a different kind of creation, imagining new modes of distribution, and mastering printing and scheduling, the artists, publishers, and collectives gathered here are shaping a more accessible, egalitarian, ecological, and socially responsible world for books and people. Slowing down—to take the time to create, to look, to exchange, differently. HATCH galerie du livre et de l’objet imprimé, conceived and run since October 2022 by Courte échelle collective, Le Havre, France.
Funding:
Roughly half of our annual budget comes from creating and selling books & printed objects, the remaining coming mainly from public funding for the collective's several projects, and several artistic provisions from members of the collective.
