TACO! is an ongoing artistic enquiry into what an artist space can be, what it can do, and who it can do it for. Its public activities are experimental, collaborative and speculative, centring artistic and cultural practices in the way its works and develops.

Invited artists are supported to research, develop and realise commissioned projects over a dedicated period of time. This artist led research informs a diverse public programme that includes exhibitions, events, discussions, workshops, screenings, publishing, and co-authored participatory projects with people and groups. Projects initiated by artists vary in duration, with an open timeframe and no set expectations on outcomes, but with a focus on 'making practice public’.

Art is not made in isolation. We understand art making to be an inherently social practice. We don’t make art for a ‘community’, we make art to create one. TACO! works to foster contemporary practices as a recognised integral part of a healthy and vibrant society by empowering artists, individuals, and communities to have the agency to realise their ambition.

As such TACO! is an evolving experiment and collaborative conversation that involves the voices of artists, children, young people, and diverse communities through the realisation of high-quality contemporary art. It’s organisational practice is embedded ands socially engaged, and since 2020 TACO! has been recognised as a leader in supporting high quality, child led cultural production.

TACO!’s platforms include a gallery and event space, publishing and broadcast facilities that together support opportunities for artists, and community production groups, to make, present and distribute their work. rtm.fm is an arts based community radio station run by TACO! presenting a broadcast schedule of live to air performance events, experimental music, art, and audio cultures.

The TACO! Bookshop undertakes a range of publishing projects with artists working with print, writing and distributed forms of production. It also provides a platform for independent publications, zines, vinyl and artist materials produced by publishers, small press, groups, galleries, and artist practitioners
